Does Masturbation Cause Acne - Is There A Simple Answer?
There's a short and a long answer to the question does masturbation cause acne?
The short answer is 'no'.
The long answer is 'no it doesn't.'
I'm sorry if that sounds glib, but we are talking facts here, and some facts are just
better presented without the unnecessary padding.
There are 2 reasons why this myth has arisen connecting acne with masturbation.
The first one is that when teens start developing acne, guess what else they might
start developing at the same time? Yep, you guessed it, sexual thoughts.
An increase in sexual thoughts in teenagers is caused by an increase in hormones,
and it's the same increase in hormones that cause acne.
The second reason for this myth is to stop underage or premarital sexual activity,
and various purity groups trot it out all the time.
In fact, there is a spoof White House web site, where it says quite clearly that masturbation does cause
acne, and justifies this by saying most teenagers who don't masturbate don't have
acne either!
This is absolute tosh, it's a spoof site, but it's on the 1st page of Google results, so some people will believe it!
Just because acne and masturbation onset at roughly the same time, does not
prove a connection between the 2 - in fact there is no medical evidence to
suggest at all that masturbation causes acne.
When researching these subjects, it's important to be careful and make sure you
assess the information presented, and wonder if there are hidden agendas going on.
At least now when you wonder 'does masturbation cause acne?' you have the answer.
