    The Great Gordino Newsletter - Issue 296 - Mon 28th Feb 2005
    ***************************************************
    Hi There,
I hope you had a good weekend.
I was lucky enough to have a great few days, full of passion for
    me.
No, not *that* sort of passion, the women of Britain are still
    resolutely rejecting my requisitions.
Here's the passion I'm talking about...
I'm passionate about the ability to connect to people via music,
and having played on Thursday, on Friday I was able to see a
local young guitarist starting her way on the live performance
road, and it's exciting to think about what she might have ahead
    of her.
At any rate, she's following her spirit more than I did when I was
    17, that's for sure.
I'm passionate about connecting with people, firing the
imagination with the written word, which is why I waffle away with
this newsletter 3 times a week.
I firmly believe, as you well know (because I keep repeating it!)
that anyone can change their life by making a decision to
change their life, and then taking action.
As well as the written word, I also like connecting with people with
the spoken word, and on Saturday I had great fun at a seminar
on how I use Google Adwords to make money.
Then yesterday I was at another jam, and a jazz band got up.
I had never seen them before, and they were excellent.
A trumpeter, and a girl clarinetist in a bowler hat certainly made
me pay attention, and the whole pub found themselves tapping
their feet whether they wanted to or not.
Infectious stuff, and a pleasant surprise to round off the
    weekend.
Did I have any bad bits over the weekend?
    Well, yes I did.
The seminar on Saturday was 150 miles away, so I set off in the
    dark, but arrived in daylight.
Nothing particularly noteworthy there, but it meant that I fell for
one of the oldest tricks in the book, forgetting that I had my
    headlights on.
It was only when I got back into the car at 9pm and turned the
key to get no response at all, that I remembered 'Hhmm,
maybe I should have turned the lights off.'
I might even have sworn a couple of times.
Mind you, we have good roadside assistance services here, so a
quick phone call, and within an hour I was on my way, laughing
    at the situation.
    See?
A weekend full of passion, and thoroughly enjoyable it was too.
When I did my research to prepare for the seminar, I checked
    my Google campaigns.
Normally I only check them at the end of the month, to see that
the commissions I earn are above the cost of the adverts.
This time when I checked though, none of my adverts were
    displaying.
This means that I am not sending any traffic anywhere, and
    therefore not earning any money!
    Not good!
The reason for this, is that Google has moved the goalposts, by
saying that they will only display one advert for every URL.
In other words, before this new change around 6 weeks ago,
they might display 10 adwords which send people to ebay, but
now they will only display 1.
This means that the other 9 ads are taken off show, and won't
be displayed again unless the advertiser takes action.
So I'll have to tweak my ads to get them displayed again.
    Am I confident about it?
    Yes.
I know the market is there, and there are various things I can
    try.
If they don't work, and it's possible they won't, I'll just have to
try something else, and it might be the nudge I need to finally
get me to optimise my web pages for the search engines a bit
    better.
That's life though isn't it - sometimes things can be trundling
along quite nicely, then an outside influence changes things,
and we are forced to take corrective action.
Ok, that's it for today, and here's the thought - when
circumstances change, do you adapt, or do you moan?
    'Til Wednesday,
    Health and Happiness,
    Gordon
