    Hi There,
I hope Monday finds you well.
I have another exciting evening ahead of me.
Having given my new purple guitar an outing at the jam night,
tonight I am taking my new purple bass guitar!
I liked the guitar so much, I bought a bass as well!
After all, it's got 2 less strings, so that's always a bonus!
I also learnt a good lesson when I was drumming last week.
Normally when I drum, I get, er, sweaty.
I love it, I call it rock & roll sweat, and it's a great feeling as you
drum away with the sweat running down your face.
However, last week I had just applied another dose of hair dye,
(Number 5, Natural Brown), and as the sweat began to run, I
noticed a distinct smell of hair dye all around me.
I think I got away with it though, because I fell back on the tried
and tested technique I use whenever I make a mistake, which is
to cast disapproving looks at everyone else on stage.
So although my reputation is intact, and everyone thinks the
guitarist smells of hair dye, that's not a mistake I'll make again.
Carrying on with the musical theme today, and why not, because
it's something I love, The X Factor on TV has moved to the live
    stages.
It's a great show to watch on so many levels.
In fact, watching it sends so many goal achievement ideas
racing round my head, that's it almost too much for me, and I
    have to turn off.
Well, that's not strictly true, but you get the point.
The X Factor is a TV singing talent show, in the same vein as
    Pop Idol.
The difference is that The X Factor allows singing groups and
    singers over 25.
It was created by Simon Cowell, the infamous Pop Idol judge,
and here's the first point - he knew how successful Pop Idol had
been, wanted more money than he was offered, so decided to
    do his own show!
The creator of Pop Idol sued, but Cowell insisted it was
    a 'completely different' show.
Would I advise you to do the same?
    Well yes and no.
Seeing a success story and tweaking it to do it yourself is a great
idea, no doubt about it, but blatant copying is bit dodgy.
The legal wrangling is still ongoing, Cowell could lose a lot of
    money.
He may get off on technicalities, but in my opinion. his show is a
    clear copy.
Having said that, it's the differences that bring me to my next
point, which maybe would vindicate Cowell's position, and it's the
    allowing of older acts.
Having worked in the record industry at EMI for 6 years, I know
from first hand experience how young a view the industry takes
    of new talent.
I think it's a bit rich for them to say to an older act on the
show, 'oh yes, there's a huge gap in the market for you'.
If there's a huge gap, then the record companies aren't doing
their job properly in the first place!
One act for example, is a male singing duo, a pair of brothers.
They have been gigging around the clubs for over 10 years.
If they went to a record company in the normal way, they
    wouldn't get a look in.
However, now they are in the final stages of the show, they are
feted as being honest, and without gimmick.
Talk about the industry leading the consumer!
Another act is a bin man.
He works hard in a badly paid job to support his family, and he
    has a great voice.
Again, he would not be given the time of day normally, but this
show has given him his chance, and he is taking it.
Was he put off by the 70,000 people that entered?
    No, he wasn't.
Only recently he was doing other people's bins, and now he is
singing on live national TV to 10 million people.
If ever you need an example of what you can achieve by taking
    action, that's it!
Right, that's it for today, and think about this - what ideas could
you tweak to bring you succes?
Also, do they do non-smelling hair dye?
    'Til Next Time,
    Health and Happiness,
    Gordon
