    The Great Gordino Newsletter - Issue 291 - Wed 16th Feb 2005
    ***************************************************

    Hi There,

I hope everything's ok with you.

I had a funny old day on Monday.
I typed out the newsletter, and fired off the test copy I always
    send myself.
Unfortunately, not only did the test copy arrive blank, it arrived 3
times, and also went out to the whole list.
    Sorry about that!
In it I wrote about the names I chose for any daughters of mine,
    and how it's relevant today.

You can read it via the main archive link above.

Ok, today I want to carry on talking about a programme I
    mentioned recently, 'Dragon's Den'.
In it, entrepreneurs pitched for investment funds from 5 multi-
    millionaire business owners.
The series has finished now, and although the format was a
bit 'Pop Idol', it was fascinating to see, both to see how good or
bad the presentations could be, and also how the minds of the
    millionaires worked.

You could see 2 basics of business success shining through all of
    them.
They weren't interested if it didn't offer a big return, and they
weren't interested if the product didn't do anything for them
    emotionally.

One of the entrepreneurs is a fashion jewellery designer.
She gave a good pitch, but didn't totally catch the panel's
    attention.
Then she produced a magazine which had a feature about her,
and she revealed that from the article she sold 6 pieces, for
    £6000 each!
Now *that* got the panel interested!

One or more of them declined to invest, on the basis that they
didn't want to add a jewellery business to their portfolio.
To me that sounds a bit hokey, because one of those investors
was prepared to invest over £100,000 in a plant watering
invention, but hey, whatever rocks your boat I guess!

The designer got her investment from 2 of the panel.

What always interests me with these programmes is to see what
is happening to these businesses today, right now.
Do they have an internet presence?
    If not, then why not!!

    The jewellery desinger?
Elizabeth Galton, and her website is at ElizabethGalton.com

If you look for some of the other businesses, you can find
    them -
    Plantpal.com
    Tattooerase.com

Good names, because they simply sum up what the site is about.

One of the investors, Rachel Elnaugh, has done a good job.
On her site she has used the show well, giving links to all the
businesses she invested in, and all those sites have a link back
    to her site.

    Here's the thing though.
On the last show, she invested in a new product called the Snow
Bone, which is a combination of snow board and BMX bike.
When I typed in Snow Bone into Google, I couldn't see it
    anywhere in the results.
Interestingly, there were also no Adwords displayed on the right
    hand side.

I emailed Rachel via her site, saying I'd advise her on Adwords.
I didn't get any response, but today I see that the site is better
    shown in the Google results.
Fair enough for anyone searching now, but for people searching right
    after the programme aired?
No results, and that was missing a trick in my view.

    Interesting, eh?

Ok, that's it for today, and here's the thought - is your web
    presence good enough?

    'Til Friday,
    Health and Happiness,
    Gordon
