    The Great Gordino Newsletter - Issue 277 - Fri 14th Jan 2005
    ***************************************************

    Hi There,

I hope everything's ok with you this Friday.

Today I want to talk about beliefs.

When it comes to goal achievement, self improvement and so
on, I will quite happily spout on about which beliefs will help you,
and which will most certainly *not*.
In fact, in a not so subtle plug, I talk about them a lot in my
    book, link below.

So today, I'm not doing that, I want to talk about not whether
your belief is right or wrong, but how deeply you study it.

    Do you question your beliefs?
It sounds a silly question, but most people do not question their
    beliefs.
They trundle through life making humungous (one of my
favourite words, that) decisions based on beliefs which are firmly
    entrenched.

Just because they are firm beliefs, it doesn't make them right.
They are drummed into us at various points along the way, and
often if we question them, it's possible to decide that your belief
is wrong, and come to a new one.

This can be life changing, it really can.
I've been there a few times, I can assure you.
When I was at my lowest with depression all those years ago, I
    had to challenge several beliefs.

It wasn't pretty, it wasn't easy, it was like Lord of The Rings in
my head, but some beliefs did get changed, and my life is
    easier as a result.

Derren Brown is a Briton who has made a name for himself in
the field of illusion and mentalism.

I like him, because he is open in what he does, he always says
that what he does is produced by a combination of skills, illusion
    and showmanship.

He is more than happy to debunk a few myths along the way.

Some of his skills are amazing, and he taught himself over
    many years.

In his latest show, he went to the US, where he isn't known, and
chose leading figures in different fields like psychics, alien
abduction, mind reading, etc, and tried to convince these people
that he had the various skills, asking if they'd recommend him.

He was interested to see if these people, leading figures whose
opinions are sought and acted on by many people, would
question what he did, which they should do.

In none of the 5 cases was he questioned.

He was given an endorsement by 4 of them, with no querying at
    all about what he did.

Doesn't that strike you as odd?

Derren had admitted to us that he was using his skills alone to
produce the effects, and yet these recognised figures accepted
at face value what he did.

You have to question your beliefs, and it's probably your
strongest beliefs that should be questioned the most!

Ok, have a good weekend, and here's the thought- why do you
    believe your beliefs?

    'Til Monday,
    Health and Happiness,
