    The Great Gordino Newsletter - Issue 267 - Mon 13th Dec 2004
    ***************************************************

    Hi There,

I hope Monday finds you well.

Last week I talked about the joy of following your passion, and
how it still requires hard work, but can reap huge rewards.
I talked about why I am not doing a tour this year, and featured
    an article from my book.
If you missed any of them, don't be a Grinch about it, just go
and read them at the main archive link above!

This morning as I was rewinding the tape to watch the NFL game
from last night, I perused the morning TV schedules.
In amongst all the usual dross of makeover and property shows,
I saw one called 'Mind Your Own Business'.
The blurb said it featured millionaires helping out struggling
businesses, and with that my finger went into overdrive to get
    the right channel.

This episode featured a hairdressing salon.
I'm not sure who the advisors were, only that they were 'self
made milionaires', but they got stuck in with relish.

The program was made with a typical daytime TV style, but
despite that, it contained some good nuggets.

The salon had not been updated in the 18 years that it had
been running, and it *did* look tatty.

18 years is a good run for a one person business, it must be
said, and that wasn't mentioned at all.

Hairdressing can pretty much always make a living, because
people always have, and always will need their hair doing.
Like most salons, this one makes the consistent bread and
butter money from the blue rinse brigade, the coffin dodgers
that come in once a week for a set, but also like a lot of salons,
this one had the downside of not appealing to the younger
market, and it was the opening of a trendy new salon over the
road that prompted the need for help.

Basically the expert advice was about impression and service.

The decor was given a good updating, simple things like tidying
up were done, to give a crisp professional look.

Extra value was added to the service by giving a 5 minute head
massage, and offering filtered coffee in matching cups rather
than instant coffee from a chipped mug.

Since the program was done, business had increased, and the
    project was a success.

It's not rocket science to make sure that the image you present
is as good as possible, and to add that little extra bit of value
when you can makes all the difference.

If you do business online, this really can have a huge impact -
lots of people are trying to do the same thing, so to stand out, it
sometimes only needs the slightest of personal touches or
added value, to swing the business *your* way instead of
    someone else's!

Ok, that's it for today, have a good week, and here's the
thought - is the impression you give as good as it could be?

    'Til Wednesday,
    Health and Happiness,
    Gordon
