    The Great Gordino Newsletter - Issue 264 - Mon 6th Dec 2004
    ***************************************************

    Hi There,

I hope all is well with you this week.

Last week I talked about how we can draw parallels between the
development of new technology and new self-improvement ideas.
I also talked about integrity, and a couple of stories from the
    history of heavyweight boxing.
If you missed any of them, don't go sticking your head in the
oven, just read them at the archive link above!

Today I want to talk about a subject that really rings my bell,
    and it's entertainment.
I did a gig with the band on Saturday, and as I was enjoying the
warm ripple of audience applause, I thought back to a TV series
    that ended last week.

The show was called 'Musicality', and it was a talent search type
    show.
'Yawn, another talent show,' you might well think, but this one
    was different.

Firstly, the panel were looking for 5 people to appear in
London's West End for one night, and secondly, the panel were
not out to make cheap nasty comments, but genuinely wanted
to encourage and bring foward the contestants.
So it was no 'Pop Idol', making a nice change!

2000 people entered, with the stipulation that they hadn't had
    any professional experience.

Rounds of auditions and workshops whittled down to the 5
winners, a teacher, a physiotherapist, a plumber, a box office
    worker and a waitress.

All in all the process took about 9 months, and even then the 5
found themsleves under scrutinty by the US producers of the
show, who could still say they weren't good enough.

    The show in question?
Chicago, with some of the hardest numbers in musical theatre to
    pull off.

Last week they showed the night of performance, and you could
feel the electric atmosphere oozing out of the TV.
The 5 were overflowing with enthusiasm, the audience went wild,
and I could feel the hairs on my neck stand up as I felt the
    glaringly obvious passion!

If you've ever been moved by a live show you'll know what I
mean, and if you haven't, it's a thrill to savour I assure you.
Most people who *do* enjoy musical theatre would dream of
performing in a show like Chicago in London, and 2000 people
just like that did something about it and applied for the show.

Obviously only 5 of them got through, and that wasn't without a
bucket load of blood sweat and tears, all caught on camera!
The musical director said he got a little bored by the tears,
pointing out that it was a tough business, full of rejection.

Rejection is the first of many points from the show, that all the
applicants were prepared to face the possibilty of rejection in
order to face the possibilty of success, and the further they got
into the process, the more they had to face up to possible
    rejection, over and over.

The 5 that made it had no professional experience, but as for
the *rest* of the cast that night - full professionals, toughened
up by years of effort, discipline, training, and yes, rejection.
You don't need a show like this to follow your dream, you can do
it the old fashoned way - hard work.

Having said that, the program did show that you can take 5
people, and in a few weeks, get them to the level that others
get to after years, which proves what laser sharp focus can
    achieve.

For a musical loving perfomer like me, who writes about goal
achievement, self-improvement and wealth creation, this was a
show to just be lapped up, and now's a good time to thank-you
    for reading this newsletter.
Before the internet came along, when I used to gush about
subjects like this, most people used to tell me to shut up and be
    as miserable as them.

Now, I can pass on my observations to people that want to hear
them, and hopefully get across some of the passion I feel about
    things like this.

Right, that's it for today, have a good week, and here's the
thought - passion, do you follow yours?

    'Til Wednesday,
    Health and Happiness,
    Gordon
