    I hope everything's ok with you.
    I had someone email me the other day, pointing out a couple of
    typos on my website, and hoping I didn't mind her telling me.
    Of course I didn't!
    Unasked for advice can contain some absolute gems, and I
    always welcome it.
    As a quick thanks, I thought I'd give her site a mention.
    Claire Sims is a virtual assistant, and in her email to me she
    had her promo details at the bottom, a simple technique
    which not many people do!

    Right then, let me get to Albert Einstein.
    I covered his E=MC2 equation last week, but it wasn't the only
    theory he came up with at that time.
    He came up with his theories of relativity.
    These showed that contrary to popular belief, time was not
    constant, but was in fact relative to speed, i.e. the faster you go,
    the quicker time passes.
    He also came up with theories that described the difference
    between the force of gravity, and the electro force surrounding
    atoms.
    Basically we are kept from flying into space by gravity, which
    keeps us on the ground.
    Why, though, do we not keep going down into the ground?
    The answer is that although the force of gravity is huge when it
    comes to the planets, it is weak compared to the electro force
    around atoms.
    All well and good it seems, but these two physical laws seem to
    contradict each other, and it's this contradiction which still
    puzzles the science world today.
    Einstein spent the last 30 years of his life trying to tie in these
    differing views, working on his 'Theory of Everything'
    One of his main problems came from an idea he had originated
    himself - quantum mechanics.
    Around his E=MC2 time, Einstein declared that light was not
    a wave, but made up of randomly occuring particles, and it's the
    randomness which is the quantum feature.
    When other scientists tried to develop a theory of everything
    using quantum ideas, Einstein rejected it totally.
    A believer in God, and also a believer in predictable order in
    things, he couldn't accept the idea of the randomness, because
    if it was true, the predictability had to be replaced by 'probability'
    at best.
    This refusal to accept the quantum theories which he had
    germinated himself led to him being left out in the cold by the
    science world, a has been.
    He missed so many discoveries - for example the transformer,
    computer chip, all depend to some extent on quantum
    mechanics.
    Still working on his theory of everything to his last days, he died
    with the theory still not finished.
    So, was he wrong?
    Was he so stubborn that he lost 30 years of good work?
    Or, was he right to stick to his ideas, to carry on working on
    them depsite everyone telling him he was wrong?
    I'm tempted to say he made the wrong decision, but here's the
    thing - it was his choice!
    A man of obvious intellect, maybe in time he would have been
    proved right, and then no-one would have called him a has been.
    It's a fine line between being persistent and being stubborn, and
    it *is* important to constantly ask which one you are being.
    Ok, have a good weekend, I know I will, it's a late night Sunday
    for me watching the Superbowl, and here's the thought - what
    are you, stubborn or persistent?
